What's New in FactSage 7.2
Apart from some minor issues the FactSage Apps and Databases are working as designed.
The errors in FSstel only apply if CD-FactSage72.exe was downloaded before June 11, 2018. Most users do not have access to the FSstel databases.
FSstel solution database:
Due to the corrections of (b) and (c) the calculation no longer gives an erroneous stable liquid solution (containing high P content) below 800C.
(a) - liquid MoSi2 has been removed. We recommend users download the complete package (CD-FactSage72.exe) and update/refresh your 7.2 installation.
(b) - pure liquids P, S, B, Nb, Sn have been added.
Notes:
If the date of FSstel files in your FactSage installation (\FACTDATA) is 2018-01-01 the FSstel files need to
be updated to the download 2018-06-06.
In View Data the description of the updated FSstel databases includes '(June 2018)'.
If you are extracting FSstel53base.cdb etc. from Patch72_FSstel.zip, in order to preserve the file date 2018-06-06
it may be necessary to first unblock the compressed file - see Unblocking a zip file.
This error only applies when CD-FactSage72.exe was downloaded before March 21, 2018.
This erroneous warning may be mistakenly issued by setup for a Server Network installation. If you are entitled to install FactSage 7.2 on a Server Network simply ignore the warning and continue with setup.
This error only applies when CD-FactSage72.exe was downloaded before March 21, 2018. Most users do not have access to the SGPS compound database.
Errors in the SGPS (SGTE pure substances) compound database have been found for the following substances: Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, NiO, Gd, Dy due to a bug in converting magnetic Gibbs energy terms to FactSage database format. Although the errors are small we recommend users download the complete package (CD-FactSage72.exe) and update/refresh your 7.2 installation. Alternatively users can download a small patch Patch72_SGPS.zip and copy the 2 files SGPSbase.cdb and SGPSbase.xcl to the FACTDATA folder (typically c:\FactSage\FACTDATA) of their FactSage 7.2 installation.
Notes:
If the date of SGPSbase.cdb in your FactSage installation (\FACTDATA) is 2018-01-01 the SGPS files need to
be updated to the download 2018-03-03.
If you are extracting SGPSbase.cdb etc. from Patch72_SGPS.zip, in order to preserve the file date 2018-03-03
it may be necessary to first unblock the compressed file - see Unblocking a zip file.
In View Data the description of updated SGPSbase.cdb will include 'revised 2018'.
This error is not new (it also appears in FactSage 7.0 and 7.1) and only applies to a very small group of users.
When calculating a phase diagrams with paraquilibrium (in the 'Menu Window' the 'paraquilibrium & Gmin' box is checked), the components entered in the components window must all be elements. Entry of one or more compounds as components will result in an incorrect diagram. For example the Ti-Zr-C system is OK but the Ti-ZrC system will be in error. This error will be addressed in the next version of FactSage.
This error only applies when CD-FactSage72.exe was downloaded before March 3, 2018.
For polythermal projections where the compositions are mass fraction (i.e. units are 'grams') the univariant lines (phase domains) are plotted correctly but the isotherms (contours on the liquidus surface) may be in error. In such cases it generally evident there is a bug because the diagram looks wrong. (Note: the error does not apply to polythermal projections where the compositions are mole fraction.)
This error does not occur when the input components are monatomic. For example, the Gibbs mass fraction ternary projections of Ag-Au-Sb or C-Fe-Mn are OK. However, when one or more input components are multiatomic, there is an error. For example, the isotherms for mass fraction projections of Ag-Au2-Sb3 or Al2O3-CaO-SiO2 are in error.
To fix the error you can download the complete package (CD-FactSage72.exe) and update/refresh your 7.2 installation. Alternatively, you can download the small patch Patch72_2018-03-03.zip (approx. size 1.3 MB) and copy the file FactSage.dll (date 2018-03-03) to the Factsage folder of your 7.2 installation and replace FactSage.dll (date 2018-02-02). Note, you are updating the file FactSage.dll and not FactSage.exe or FactSage.ini. If the date modified of FactSage.dll in your FactSage installation is 2018-03-03 the file is already uptodate. When extracting FactSage.dll from the zip file, in order to preserve the file date 2018-03-03 it may be necessary to first unblock the compressed file - see Unblocking a zip file.
In order to run FactSage 7.2 under Korean Windows it is necessary to first download the English language pack. Details on how to do this are posted at Korean Windows and FactSage 7.2.
Note that FactSage 7.2 runs without issues under other Windows (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, German, etc.).
