Unblocking a zip file to preserve the file dates

When you extract a compressed file that you downloaded from the Internet, the file's modified date changes to the date that you extracted it. This is a MicroSoft security feature that we cannot control.

For example, with FactSage 7.2 if you download the patch Patch72_2018-03-03.zip and extract the file FactSage.dll the original modified date 2018-03-03 is changed. This can be confusing since we wish you to replace FactSage.dll 2018-02-02 by FactSage.dll 2018-03-03. Then when you see FactSage.dll 2018-03-03 in the Factsage folder you know the file has been updated to the correct version.

The following workaround to preserve the file dates is recommended by Microsoft Support.

How to unblock a downloaded compressed file, for example Download.zip:

1. Locate the compressed file in the Downloads folder.

2. Right-click the compressed file, and then click Properties.

3. Click the General tab, click Unblock, and then click OK.

4. Extract the files from the compressed file in the usual manner.
