What's New in FactSage 8.1
The FactSage Apps and Databases are essentially working as designed. but some issues have been reported.
When employing Equilib with sulphur-containing slag systems with FToxid-SLAGB or carbon-containing systems with FToxid-SLAGD, any product ChemSage file will be in error. That is, if ChemApp uses this file you might get erroneous results that are close to the correct ones.
Note: this error is not new - it goes back to FactSage 8.0. It will be corrected in the next version of FactSage.
In FactSage 8.1 there is a new option to calculate the thermal conductivity of microstructures - see 'Slide Show > Equilib - Thermal conductivity of microstructures'.
In a network installation, a client user is not be able to do because of missing files. To remedy the situation copy the following 2 files from the server installation to the client installation: Microstructure.exe PHYSPROP_microstructure.ini
With this error message you must quit Equilib because the system is now corrupt. Any saved files (including the 'file saved last time') may be invalid.
This is a rare error message that appeared in a complex calculation involving virtual species, Qa, Qb, private data, mixed units and an aqueous phase. This is a very particular (i.e. not common) calculation. Virtual species are new in FactSage 8.1 and to date no other errors have been reported using them.
Revised May 24, 2021
The error message may appear only if a reactant is an ionic virtual species, for example
CH3COOH(Qa) + 0 Ar + 55.508 H2O + 0 CH3COOQa[-] =Normally charged species (ions) are not permitted as reactants in Equilib. However in 8.1 an exception was made for charged virtual species of zero mass. It appears that most calculations with such ionic reactants do appear to work OK and the error message is not common.
Click 'Yes' to safely update the profiles. This message may appear when you first run FactSage.
To avoid this message in the FactSage Main Menu click 'Tools > FactSage Updates > ' and select 'Automatically update Profiles81.ini'.
For Customer IDs 1 - 5000 the file structures of the files Profiles73.ini, Profiles80.ini and Profiles81.ini have been upgraded and resulted in the above message for these users.
The following error message may also appear when updating the file Profiles81.ini.
'Filecopy error'
- unable to copy file
C:\...\DownloadFS81\Profiles81.ini to
C:\...\FACTDATA\Profiles81.ini
In such a case you need remove the 'read-only' attribute of the file Profiles81.ini stored in the \FACTDATA sub-folder. This can be done via the command prompt attrib -R Profiles81.ini for example
C:\...\FACTDATA> attrib -R Profiles81.iniAlternatively use the Windows Explorer and open the folder C:\...\FACTDATA
