FactSage 7.0 Report
Here we post the most recent messages about FactSage 7.0 including items not addressed in What's New in FactSage 7.0
The download file CD-FactSage70.exe was last corrected for some of the errors listed below on January 19, 2016.
To date the modules and databases are mainly working as designed, but there are some 'glitches'.
When specifying input amounts of a [stream] and checking 'initial conditions', the calculated Delta H is in error.
There is no fix for FactSage 7. The fix will be applied to FactSage 7.1 which will be released within a few weeks.
This erroneous messsage may appear when creating or importing a ChemSage file. Simply ignore the message - it has no effect upon the program.
FactPS compound data for the OPCl3 liquid phase are in error. Do not include the OPCl3 liquid phase in your calculations.
This only applies to cases where CD-FactSage70.exe was downloaded on or before January 19, 2016.
This messaage appears in the Results Window for systems with many species when saving the results in *.xls and *.xlsx files
To fix this bug download the following zip file http://www.crct.polymtl.ca/dl/Patch70_12Jan2016.zip and copy the file Equisage.exe to the FactSage main folder.
This erroneous messaage appears when specifying an electron, e[-], as a reactant. Simply ignore the message - it has no effect upon the calculation.
Use the J-option when selecting the FCC_A1 phase in calculations. (It is currently set as I-option)
This only applies to cases where CD-FactSage70.exe was downloaded on or before January 19, 2016.
When specifying <A> or <B> input amounts of a [stream] the calculation may produce results that are in error.
To fix this bug download the following zip file http://www.crct.polymtl.ca/dl/Patch70_12Jan2016.zip and copy the file Equisage.exe to the FactSage main folder.
The new option 'Z' enables you to plot isobars of a gas species or gas phase and iso-activity lines of a compound (liquid, solid). In the case of gas isobars you should restrict the calculations to ideal gases at 1 atm total pressure (or 1 bar total pressure).
Calculations for 'real' gases, or at total pressures other than unity, or where the presure units are psi, Pa or GPa, produce isobars that are in error. (Note: all the stored Phase Diagram examples on isobars are correct - click on 'File > Directories > Various Types of X- and Y-axes'.)
Unlike Equilib, it is not possible to use a [Stream] as a component - you get the error message: 'illegal sequence of characters'.
For example, say the stream [Fe_alloy] is a mixture of 0.8416 Fe + 0.02002 Mn + 0.0178 Si (moles). Do not import the stream [Fe_alloy] into Phase Diagram but instead enter the following component: Fe0.8416Mn0.02002Si0.0178 .
(If you don't understand what this means, then don't worry; you are not entering streams and you are not affected.)
In a private database, if you have an ordered phase as well as another phase coupled to it, then the other phase must precede the ordered phase in the database. (If you don't understand what this means, then don't worry; you are not entering coupled ordered phases and you are not affected.)
FactOptimal calculations generate a file called FTOPT_debugBB.txt in the FactSage folder. Rather than being removed after each calculation, the file is retained and grows in size. It is recommended that you periodically delete the file FTOPT_debugBB.txt from the FactSage folder.
Equilibrium and Scheil cooling calculations may be very slow if too large a cooling step is chosen. Should you experience this problem, reduce the cooling step.
This only applies to cases where CD-FactSage70.exe was downloaded on or before October 26, 2015.
For an Equilib calculation involving many elements or multiple databases in rare cases when you click on 'Calculate >>' you get the error message "Run-time error '9': / Subscript out of range" and the program crashes.
In this case repeat the download of CD-FactSage70.exe and update the installation ('Update existing FactSage installation').
This only applies to cases where CD-FactSage70.exe was downloaded on or before October 15, 2015.
The Solution module sample files Sol*soln.sln and Sol*soln.fdb are missing from the installation - these files are used in the Solution Slide Show. In this case repeat the download of CD-FactSage70.exe and update the installation ('Update existing FactSage installation'). Alternatively download the following zip file http://www.crct.polymtl.ca/dl/SolutionExamples70.zip and copy the sol*soln files to the \FACTDATA folder.
Some users have reported the following error message when running CD-FactSage70.exe : Windows cannot find 'c:\CD-FactSage70\Images_ShowMe70\SelfExtractor.exe' ... .
Simply ignore the message - the extraction was successful. You can safely go to the temporary folder (typically c:\Temp) and run Setup-FactSage70.exe.
This only applies to cases where CD-FactSage70.exe was downloaded on or before October 8, 2015.
For some network installations the server (with a password file) runs OK but the clients do not - they issue an error message about a 'missing or invalid FactSage HASP security key' . In this case repeat the download of CD-FactSage70.exe and update the Server installation. If this does not fix the bug then report the error to us.
